Though you can pay a visit to any sushi restaurant and enjoy delicious and fresh food, another viable option is to learn by yourself how to make tasty sushi at home. For some unknown reason, a lot of people feel rather intimidated when it comes to making their own sushi but in fact, the sushi-making process is not at all complicated and the results will be precisely as you would get in a fancy sushi bar. Just imagine yourself having a private dinner party and serving fresh, delicious, homemade sushi.

All in all, there are 3 types of sushi, namely Hayazushi, Narezushi and Namanarizushi. By far the most commonly served is of course Hayazushi, most often found in sushi rolls and sold in restaurants. To make fresh and delicious sushi, you don’t need expensive cutting-edge equipment and any speciality spices can easily be bought at most shops.
To get started, you need the following things to make homemade Sushi:
• A bowl of water with a couple of lemon slices
• Bamboo roll mat
• A clean cutting board
• A sharp knife
• A clean and wet towel
• A pack of roasted seaweed
• Sushi rice
• Wasabi
To begin with, cut in half the seaweed using your sharp knife and cutting board. Then roll it out on the bamboo mat. Next, moisten your hands with the prepared lemon water, take about five ounces of rice and form it into a rod. Now spread the rice horizontally from left to right onto the seaweed. Again, moisten your hands and wipe them off with the wet towel. Do this every time you handle the rice.
Leaving about half an inch at the very top of the seaweed evenly spreads the rice out, leaving a small groove in the centre. Such a groove is where you’ll find the raw fish or vegetables. Again, moisten and wipe your hands. Then, place the fish or vegetable strip in the groove. Very carefully, lift and quickly roll the bamboo mat front end to the other end of the sushi rice, pressing quite slightly.
Roll the bamboo mat from the other end. The half an inch space you left earlier with now be sealed with the other end of seaweed. At the centre, press the mat lightly, sliding the hands down to the very ends. Remove the bamboo mat and press both seaweed ends to create such a tight seal. Finally, use the knife to cut into pieces, creating a circle filled with raw fish and vegetables.
